Chandigarh, November 6, 2026: Paddy procurement in Punjab has crossed 150 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) during the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season 2026-27, while the total arrival in mandis has exceeded 152 LMT, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said on Friday.
The Minister said the achievement reflected farmers’ confidence in the state’s procurement arrangements and credited the Bhagwant Mann-led government with ensuring smooth and hassle-free procurement across mandis.
He informed that the lifting of procured paddy had crossed 110 LMT. The lifting percentage within 72 hours of procurement stood at 84.65 per cent, he added.
Kataruchak said the department was taking steps to speed up lifting so that mandis could be cleared for fresh arrivals and farmers would not face inconvenience.
He further said that payments amounting to Rs 33,000 crore had been credited to farmers’ accounts, representing 100.89 per cent of the payment due, according to the minister.
The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department is coordinating with procurement agencies, the Punjab Mandi Board, transporters and labourers to maintain uninterrupted procurement, ensure timely lifting and facilitate prompt payments, he added.
Kataruchak reiterated that the government would procure every grain brought by farmers to the mandis and ensure payments within the stipulated time.
