Five days after being brutally attacked, 26-year old Satpal Singh of Malout, Mukatsar, is still lying at Auckland Hospital in induced coma.
Satpal was attacked with a baseball bat by unknown assailant(s) and was found with serious head injuries on the footpath, just five minutes from his Takanini, Auckland home at 10.20pm on Aug 15.
As Satpal was not carrying any identification items on him,it took three days of intense search in the local Indian community before his identity could be established by his neighbour and friend, Rahul Deep.
Satpal’s father, Ajmer Singh, is an Assistant Sub Inspector of Punjab Police and posted at Sadar Malout police station.
His father is desperate to be at his son’s bedside but does not have a passport, and is yet to even speak to him on phone as he is still in induced coma.
It is now reported that Ajmer’s brother-in-law may reach New Zealand today or tomorrow where doctors are waiting for a family member to be present when he is brought out of induced coma.
Satpal came to New Zealand in November, 2013 as an international student, had received his work visa just a day earlier. Before moving to Auckland in June, he was living in Christchurch and was working as a car salesperson.
Police investigation was continuing and no arrests have been made so far.
