New Zealand’s “rolling green hills, majestic mountains, breathtaking fjords and amazing diversity of landscape from one island to the next”, have earned this country a third place in the Rough Guide’s list of most beautiful countries in the world.
New Zealand overtook several countries, including Iceland, Italy & India to find a place in the top three beautiful nations.
The results are based upon the feedback sought from its readers by Rough Guide, an influential travel guide that publishes travel books covering more than 120 destinations around the globe.
Rough Guide readers, however, edged Canada and New Zealand and voted Scotland for the top spot “for its wild beaches, deep lochs and craggy castles”.
Canada achieved the second rank, but Australia did not even make the top 20 in the list.
India, described by some as “Marmite” kind of country (you either love it or you hate it), is listed at number 13 – ahead of Switzerland that is at 15.
The top five countries are:
- Scotland
- Canada
- New Zealand
- Italy
- South Africa
