Punjab Petrol Pumps to stop accepting UPI above Rs. 2000 from October 16

Chandigarh, September 21, 2026: Petrol Pumps in Punjab will stop accepting UPI above Rs. 2000 from October 16 to as a protest against levying 0.4 percent Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). Decision to this effect was taken by Petrol Pumps Dealers Association Punjab.
Parmjit Singh Doaba President of the Association said that Petrol Pump dealers earn only 2 percent commission on per litre of fuel sale. He said that there is huge expenditure of electricity, staff salaries and maintenance. He disclosed that 30 to 40 percent consumers make UPI payments above Rs. 2000 daily as such it will become difficult for dealers to bear MDR cost.
He urged Union Petroleum Minister and Oil companies to take steps to save and exempt Petrol Pump Dealers from this MDR.
