Punjab farmers can get up to Rs 80,000 subsidy for Mushroom Production units

Chandigarh, August 24, 2026: The Punjab Government is promoting mushroom cultivation as part of its efforts to encourage crop diversification and provide farmers with additional sources of income, Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat said on Sunday.
Bhagat said farmers can avail of a subsidy of up to 40 per cent, subject to a maximum of Rs. 80,000, for setting up mushroom production units under the government’s horticulture initiatives.
The Minister said mushroom cultivation requires relatively less land and can therefore provide an additional income opportunity for small and marginal farmers. The subsidy is aimed at helping farmers adopt mushroom production with financial support from the government.
Bhagat said the Punjab Government is encouraging farmers to move beyond traditional farming and adopt horticulture and other high-value agricultural activities to improve farm incomes.
He said the Horticulture Department is implementing various schemes under which farmers can access modern agricultural technologies, financial assistance and other support for crop diversification.
According to the Minister, promoting alternative and more profitable farming practices is an important part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural economy and increase farmers’ income.
