Chandigarh University outshines globally in QS World University Rankings by Subjects 2024, secures top ranks in 8 subjects
542 Haryana students bag offers from top MNCs during Chandigarh University’s 2023-24 placement drive, including 176 receiving multiple offers

Mohali, May 21, 2024: Within just 12 years of its establishment, Chandigarh University has firmly established itself as a prominent higher education institution, both in India and globally, and continues to soar to greater heights with every passing day. And, its impressive performance in the recent QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024 has added yet another feather to its cap, further strengthening its position among India’s elite and prestigious higher education institutions, said Advisor to Chancellor Chandigarh University Dr. R S Bawa while speaking at the press conference at Kurukshetra in Haryana.
During the press conference, Prof. (Dr.) R S Bawa, Advisor to the Chancellor of Chandigarh University, said, “Chandigarh University’s commitment to providing quality education and fostering holistic development of students is evident in its consistently improving rankings across various metrics. In the recently released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, Chandigarh University ascended to the ranks of top national institutions, with eight of its courses now featured, compared to just five subjects last year.”
He said, “Among Indian institutions, CU ranked 1st in Hotel and Leisure Management, 10th in Computer Science & Information Systems, 11th in Engineering & Technology, 14th in Mechanical Engineering, and 18th in Business & Management Studies. Furthermore, the university achieved notable rankings in three new subjects this year, securing 3rd place in Petroleum Engineering, 5th in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, and 9th in Social Sciences and Management.”
He also shared that Chandigarh University made a remarkable jump of 36 positions in the QS Asia Universities Rankings 2024, rising to 149th place from 185th the previous year.
Additionally, the university earned the 27th rank among India’s top universities in the NIRF Rankings 2023.
Remarkably, it has climbed the ranks of national institutions, with eight of its courses now featured in the recently released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, up from just five last year.
During his address at the conference, Dr. R S Bawa highlighted Chandigarh University’s commitment to not only nurturing academic excellence but also providing global exposure to its students.
He said, “In line with its commitment to preparing highly skilled and talented graduates for the professional realm, Chandigarh University has forged 486 academic collaborations and partnerships across more than 95 countries worldwide, delivering invaluable global experiences to students. Through these collaborations, over 1300 CU students have had the opportunity to study at prestigious universities in the USA, Australia, Canada, the UK, and various European nations, via semester exchanges, study abroad programs, and summer internships. As many as 310 students have got the opportunity to intern at Walt Disney.”
Dr. Bawa further emphasized that Chandigarh University values physical activity and games as important components of students’ overall development, placing equal importance on sports as on academics. He said, “With focus on encouraging the budding sports talent, Chandigarh University has reserved a budget of INR 8.5 Crores this year to ensure sports development on the campus. It boasts an array of state-of-the-art sports facilities and expert coaches on campus to offer regular training for students aspiring to pursue sports careers. Moreover, the university provides financial support to students in the form of annual scholarships.”
“As a result, a significant number of CU students have not only competed at national but also international levels and brought laurels and glory for both university and the country in their respective sports. To date, Chandigarh University students have earned over 342 medals across various state, national, and international sports events. It gives me immense pride to share that approximately 50% of these medals have been earned by students hailing from Haryana,” he added.
Dr. Bawa said, “Additionally, students from Haryana have scripted history over the years. Reetika Hooda from Haryana became the First-Ever U-23 Woman Wrestling World Champion from India in 2023, meanwhile Savita Dalal secured a gold medal the U-17 World Wrestling Championship in the same year. Moreover, Aruna Singh Tanwar has brought glory to the university by becoming India’s First Taekwondo Paralympian and five times National Champion.”
Unveiling the placement statistics of the 2023-24 batch, Dr. R S Bawa said, “Chandigarh University hosted a total of 904 companies this year for campus placements and received 9124 job offers across different streams. The highest international package stood at Rs 1.74 crore, while the highest domestic salary package was worth Rs 54.75 lakh. Notably, over 31 recruiters presented opportunities exceeding Rs 20 lakh annually, and 52 companies proposed positions with annual salaries surpassing Rs 15 lakh. Furthermore, more than 100 companies provided job offers with an annual salary of Rs 10 lakh, while 310 companies offered positions with a yearly salary of Rs 5 lakh.”
At present, 4542 students from Haryana are pursuing their higher education at Chandigarh University. While sharing the placement details of Haryana students, Dr. R S Bawa said, “A total of 542 students from Haryana secured a commendable 678 job offers from esteemed companies during this year’s campus recruitment process, including 111 girl students. Impressively, 225 students received multiple job offers from renowned recruiters such as Microsoft, Amazon, Mahindra, Accenture, Cognizant, and Capgemini. Notably, 89 students from Kurukshetra clinched 133 job offers during the placement drive, with 36 students securing multiple offers.
A local girl from Kurukshetra, Nitin Tamak – who was BE/B.Tech- CSE at Chandigarh University – secured three job offers from TEKsystems Global Services Pvt Ltd, Capgemini India Pvt Ltd and DXC Technology India Pvt Ltd. Similarly, another BE/B.Tech- CSE student from Kurukshetra, Ayushi Goyal got job offers from top brands like Bosch Global Software System (IT Services) and DXC Technology India Pvt Ltd. Arin Verma of BE/B.Tech- CSE got job offers from Accenture India Pvt Ltd and HCL Technologies Ltd, meanwhile Shivam Goyal bagged a job offer from The Math Company.
Providing insight into Chandigarh University’s dedication to research and innovation-driven academia, Prof. (Dr.) R S Bawa said, “Chandigarh University places significant emphasis on research endeavors across various disciplines, alongside its focus on academic excellence. So far, Chandigarh University has 2613 patents in its name, filed across the domains like Engineering, IT, Sciences, and Healthcare, making it as the second-highest patent-filing entity in India. The University filed 703 patents during the academic year 2021-22, becoming the leading institution in the country for highest patent filings within a single year. In line with this commitment, Chandigarh University has allocated a budget of Rs. 15 Crore this year to promote and enhance research in various domains by both students and the faculty.”
