Chandigarh, November 5, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced that the Punjab Government will move the High Court against the recent decision to dissolve the Senate and Syndicate of Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, calling the move “unconstitutional and arbitrary.”
Punjab Government to Challenge Decision in Court
In a strong statement issued on Wednesday, CM Mann said that the Punjab Government is fully prepared to fight a legal battle against what he described as an act of “high-handedness” aimed at undermining Punjab’s rightful role in the governance of Panjab University.
He confirmed that the state government will soon approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court to challenge the notification that dissolved the university’s governing bodies.
“This is not just about a university; it’s about protecting Punjab’s constitutional and educational rights,” the Chief Minister said.
The government will also form a special panel of senior and expert lawyers to represent the state in the case and ensure a robust legal defence.
Issue to Be Raised in the Punjab Assembly
Alongside legal action, the Chief Minister announced that the issue will also be raised at the political and legislative levels.
“We will present this matter in the Punjab Legislative Assembly to strengthen our position both legally and politically,” Mann stated.
CM Mann reiterated that the Punjab Government will not allow the erosion of its constitutional rights over Panjab University, stressing that the state is determined to protect its stake and authority in the university’s functioning.
