PU Students to continue protest despite Centre’s rollback; Nov 10 ‘PU Bandh’ on, daily sit‑ins until senate poll schedule
Chandigarh, November 8, 2025: Student groups at Panjab University said their agitation against the Centre’s senate and syndicate notifications will continue despite the education ministry rescinding its order, citing confusion over successive notifications and demanding an immediate schedule for senate elections.
Organisers said the campus shutdown called for November 10 will go ahead under the ‘PU Bachao Morcha’, with support from multiple student outfits and allied groups, and future strategy will be announced based on the turnout that day.
Daily protests outside the Vice‑Chancellor’s office will continue until an official senate election timetable is issued, student leaders said, adding that the withdrawal did not resolve core concerns about representation and governance.
Amid the standoff, former senate member Ravinder Singh Billa argued that operating the university without an elected senate for a year has already harmed the institution and said the senate’s term must be extended to compensate for the lost period.
