Seminar on “Impact of Social Media on Students” held at Saragarhi Meritorious School Ferozepur
Students Motivated to Use Social Media and Internet Responsibly
Ferozepur, May 14, 2026: With an aim to create awareness about the positive and negative impact of social media and the internet on the younger generation, a seminar on the topic “Impact of Social Media on Students” was organised at Saragarhi Memorial Meritorious School under the leadership of Principal Dr. Satinder Singh and Vice Principal Sukirti Sharma.
Welcoming the guests, the school authorities stressed that making students aware about the balanced and responsible use of social media has become the need of the hour. They said that while social media and the internet can prove to be a boon for students when used wisely, excessive and unnecessary usage is becoming a major obstacle in studies and overall success.
Senior journalists Sunil Kataria attended the seminar as the chief speaker, while Parminder Singh Thind participated as the resource person. More than 350 students of Class XII and members of the teaching staff attended the seminar.
Addressing the students, Sunil Kataria elaborated on the positive and negative aspects of social media and said that while it is a major source of information, its misuse can lead to wastage of time and mental stress. He encouraged students to use social media for education, knowledge enhancement and personal development. Sharing his professional experiences, he highlighted how social media is influencing the lives of common people and emphasized the need to remain aware and responsible in the digital age.
Parminder Singh Thind informed students in detail about the functioning of social media and journalism. He said that in today’s digital era, it is extremely important to verify facts and identify authentic information. He also advised students to remain cautious about fake news and misleading content circulating online.
The stage proceedings were conducted efficiently by lecturer Navjot Kaur. Among others present on the occasion were Sukirti Sharma, Ginni Bansal, Jaswinder Singh, Manoj Kumar, Amar Verma, Seema Rani, Gagandeep Kaur, Sakshi, Rooppreet Kaur, Poonam Bala, Gurpreet Kaur, Lakshmi and Warden Jarnail Singh.
At the end of the seminar, lecturer Ginni Bansal proposed the vote of thanks and the guests were honoured with mementoes by the school management.
