100 Years of Martyrdom: Teja Singh Samundri remembered at GNDU; Taranjit Singh Sandhu hails theatrical tribute

Amritsar (Punjab), August 12, 2026: A special theatrical presentation commemorating the 100th anniversary of the martyrdom of S. Teja Singh Samundri was organised at the Golden Jubilee Convention Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, on Wednesday.
Organised by Manch-Rangmanch, Amritsar, and directed by theatre director Kewal Dhaliwal, the presentation was held in association with GNDU and Amandeep Hospital in partnership with Ujala Cygnus. It portrayed the life, religious reforms and contribution to the freedom struggle of S. Teja Singh Samundri.
The programme sought to connect the younger generation with the values of selfless service, courage and social responsibility through theatre.
S. Teja Singh Samundri was a prominent figure associated with the Gurdwara Reform Movement and the freedom struggle. He is remembered for his commitment to religious and social reforms and his spirit of selfless service.
The event was attended by a large gathering, including students and young people, who witnessed the theatrical depiction of key aspects of his life and contributions.
Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh appreciated the initiative and said that programmes of this nature provide an effective platform to introduce younger generations to important personalities and significant chapters of history.
The chief guest, S. Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and grandson of S. Teja Singh Samundri, also appreciated the theatrical presentation. He said remembering the sacrifices and contributions of great personalities was essential to inspiring the younger generation.
Dr. Avtar Singh, Director, Amandeep Hospital in Partnership with Ujala Cygnus, said the initiative aimed to take the stories and values of great personalities to young people through meaningful and engaging mediums such as theatre.
The event also highlighted the importance of preserving historical narratives and presenting them in contemporary formats so that younger generations can connect with the values and sacrifices that have shaped society.
The programme concluded with an emphasis on the continued relevance of selfless service, courage, social responsibility and commitment to values in contemporary times.
