Philadelphia (US), June 7, 2026: A 28-year-old Indian man from Hyderabad was shot dead while delivering a pizza in the US city of Philadelphia, leaving his family devastated and seeking urgent assistance from the Indian government to bring his mortal remains back home.
The victim, identified as Anshul Kuncha, had been living in the United States for the past four years. According to family members, he had initially moved to the country to pursue higher education and later secured employment with a multinational company.
Despite holding a full-time job, Anshul reportedly worked part-time on weekends as a pizza delivery driver to supplement his income.
According to his family, the fatal incident occurred on June 5 when Anshul responded to a pizza delivery request in a relatively isolated area of Philadelphia. His sister, Tanvi, alleged that the delivery order may have been a trap set by the attackers.
She said the assailants opened fire on Anshul, striking him multiple times in the head before fleeing the scene. He was left lying on the road and succumbed to his injuries.
Family members noted that no valuables were stolen during the attack, raising suspicions that the crime may have been a targeted assault rather than a robbery attempt.
Local media reports in the United States have suggested that two masked suspects may have been involved in the shooting. Authorities are investigating the case and have not yet announced any arrests.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Anshul's family and friends in Hyderabad. His relatives have appealed to the Government of India and the Indian diplomatic mission in the United States to expedite the process of repatriating his body so that his last rites can be performed in his hometown.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns surrounding the safety of delivery workers and international students who often take up part-time jobs while pursuing studies or building careers abroad.
