Attack on Sukhbir Badal highly condemnable: Kalka and Kahlon
New Delhi, August 13, 2026: President of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), Sardar Harmeet Singh Kalka, and General Secretary Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, while addressing a press conference here today, strongly condemned the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal President Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal and termed it a serious violation of the sanctity of the Gurdwara and the fundamental principles of GurSikhi.
Sardar Harmeet Singh Kalka said that attacking anyone inside a Gurdwara or in the name of GurSikhi is completely unacceptable and deserves the strongest condemnation. He said that those who adorn the prescribed Sikh attire carry an even greater responsibility to uphold the tradition of Miri-Piri in accordance with the teachings of the Guru, rather than perpetrating oppression or violence against anyone.
He said that the incident that took place today is highly condemnable and must be denounced in the strongest possible terms. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal and expressed the hope that Guru Sahib blesses him with good health at the earliest.
Sardar Kalka said that such attacks are a sign of cowardice and are completely contrary to the principles of GurSikhi. He noted that similar incidents have also occurred at Gurdwaras and other religious places in the past, which is deeply distressing and a matter of serious concern.
He said that any violation of the sanctity of Gurdwaras or disrespect towards the Sikh form and attire cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. He appealed to everyone to understand and uphold the teachings of the Guru and to follow the path of peace, brotherhood and mutual respect.
Sardar Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said that protecting the sanctity and dignity of Gurdwaras is the collective responsibility of every Sikh. He said that violence or an attack cannot be justified under the guise of Sikh attire or religious identity.
