Bar Council withdraws election schedule for Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh Bar Associations

Chandigarh, April 10, 2026: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has withdrawn the recently announced election schedule for Bar Associations across Punjab, Haryana, and Union Territory Chandigarh.
The decision follows a communication from the Bar Council of India dated April 9, 2026, seeking reconsideration of the earlier schedule issued on April 5. The request came in light of multiple representations received from various Bar Associations in the region.
Earlier, the election programme had been announced in accordance with the Bar Associations (Constitution and Registration) Rules, 2015, and included directions to ensure 30% reservation for women lawyers, as mandated by the Supreme Court.
Taking into account the concerns raised by Bar Associations as well as inputs received internally, the Bar Council has decided to withdraw the schedule. A revised election programme will be announced at a later date.
