Big Breaking: SC Stays HC Verdict on DA; Directs Government to Submit Liquidation Plan by December1; Orders Release of Full Pending DA by March 31

Chandigarh, November 5, 2026: The Supreme Court has stayed the HC verdict on Dearness Allowance (DA) payable to Punjab government employees and pensioners. The apex court has stayed the contempt proceedings against CS Punjab ordered by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter.
The Supreme Court has directed the Punjab Government to submit its liquidation plan of the pending DA by December 1. It has also directed the state government to release the entire outstanding DA to employees and pensioners by March 31, 2026.
The order is significant for lakhs of government employees and pensioners in Punjab, who have been waiting for the release of their pending DA installments for a long time.
Meanwhile employees of the state government has announced to intensify the agitation for their demands including DA.
