Amritsar (Punjab), August 12, 2026: The Akali Dal Waris Punjab De, led by MP Amritpal Singh, has announced two more candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
Amritpal Singh’s associate and Punjabi actor Daljit Kalsi will contest from Ajnala in Amritsar, while another associate, Gurmeet Singh Bookanwala, has been named the outfit’s candidate from Moga.

Both Kalsi and Bookanwala were earlier lodged in jail with Amritpal Singh under the National Security Act (NSA). The NSA provisions against them were withdrawn last year. They are currently lodged in Punjab jails in connection with the 2023 violence at Ajnala police station.
The latest announcements come two days after the outfit named Satwant Singh, son of Kehar Singh, who was convicted in the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, as its candidate from Bassi Pathana.

With the latest announcements, Waris Punjab De has now stepped up its preparations for the Assembly elections by announcing candidates with close associations to Amritpal Singh.
