Chandigarh, October 7, 2026
In a major political and legal development hitting the top echelons of Punjab's ruling dispensation, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Punjabi film personality Amardeep Singh Grewal—a close relative (Sandoo / Co-brother) of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann—in connection with an ongoing money laundering probe into an alleged ₹5 crore bribery case.
According to sources, Grewal was initially directed to appear before the central probe agency on October 7. However, after seeking an adjournment, the ED has issued fresh directions requiring him to report to its Delhi headquarters on October 9.
Key Highlights of the Case & ED Action
-
The Bribery Allegations: The probe stems from allegations regarding an offer to scuttle an investigation in a rape case registered in Amritsar in lieu of a ₹5 crore bribe. The controversy gained political traction after former High Court judge Justice Ranjit Singh (retd.) leveled allegations pointing toward CM Bhagwant Mann's wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann—a charge she strongly refuted while issuing a formal legal notice to the former judge.
-
Financial & Production Links Under Radar: Grewal, associated with M/s East Sunshine Production Pvt Ltd, has produced prominent Punjabi films including Maujaan Hi Maujaan and Snowman. Investigators are actively trailing the overseas financial transactions and distribution channels of these projects to probe potential money laundering links.
Parallel Heat: High Court Order & CBI Raids
The ED summons comes on the heels of mounting pressure from central investigating agencies in the state:
-
CBI Probe Ordered: Just a day prior, the Punjab & Haryana High Court ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into bribery allegations involving an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) attached to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
-
CBI Raids: Following the judicial directions, the CBI registered an FIR and conducted high-profile raid operations at the Chief Minister’s camp office as well as the residential premises of his OSD.
The dual action by the CBI and ED within a 48-hour window has triggered intense political friction in Punjab, with opposition parties stepping up demands for accountability while the AAP leadership maintains that the central agencies are being utilized for political vendetta.
Punjab government has already challenged the HC order for handing over the ED case probe to CBI. The SLP likely to be taken up by SC on Tuesday or Wednesday.
