The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is undertaking the registration of every farmer under the Farmer Registry to connect farmers with various government schemes and facilities. In this regard, Chief Agriculture Officer, Bathinda, Dr. Harpreet Pal Kaur, has appealed to all farmers in the district to ensure that they get their Farmer Registry created so that they do not face any difficulty in availing subsidies and other agriculture-related government benefits that may be provided in the future.
Dr. Harpreet Pal Kaur said that it is essential for every person in whose name agricultural land is recorded to have a Farmer Registry. She clarified that there is no minimum or maximum landholding requirement for creating a Farmer Registry. Whether a farmer owns a small or large piece of land, he or she can get the registry created. Similarly, even if a farmer is engaged in a business or a job along with agriculture, they are still eligible to create a Farmer Registry.
She urged farmers to specifically ensure that separate Farmer Registries are created for all family members in whose names agricultural land is recorded. She said that creating a registry for only one family member would not be sufficient. Every individual in whose name agricultural land is registered must have a separate Farmer Registry.
The Chief Agriculture Officer said that the Farmer Registry is an important step towards recording farmers' agriculture-related information in the government system. It will help streamline the process of providing farmers with the benefits of government schemes, subsidies and other facilities in the future. Therefore, farmers should not treat the process merely as a formality and should get their Farmer Registry created in a timely manner.
Dr. Harpreet Pal Kaur further informed that the facility for creating a Farmer Registry is being provided free of cost at various Common Service Centres (CSCs) across the district. She appealed to farmers to visit their nearest Common Service Centre without delay and ensure that their own Farmer Registry, as well as those of all family members in whose names agricultural land is registered, are created.
She said that if farmers face any difficulty regarding the Farmer Registry, they can contact officials of the Agriculture Department to obtain the necessary information and assistance.
Reiterating her appeal, Dr. Harpreet Pal Kaur said that no eligible farmer in the district should be left out of the process, and urged all farmers to ensure that their Farmer Registry is created at the earliest.
