Breaking: Dr Dinesh Sharma Appointed Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands

New Delhi, September 5, 2026: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Dr Dinesh Sharma, former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha member, as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The appointment will take effect from the date Dr Sharma assumes charge, according to a communiqué issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. (India TV News)
Dr Sharma, 62, served as Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2017 to 2022. He has also served as Mayor of Lucknow and was associated with academics, having taught commerce at Lucknow University.
He is currently a member of the Rajya Sabha, with his present term scheduled to end on November 25. (Google)
Dr Sharma succeeds Admiral D.K. Joshi as Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory.
The appointment marks a significant transition for the Andaman and Nicobar administration, with Sharma bringing experience in both state government and parliamentary affairs to the new assignment.
