Ferozepur Bar continues chain hunger strike against LADC Policy; eight advocates join protest
Ferozepur, July 23, 2026: The District Bar Association on Wednesday continued its chain hunger strike against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) policy, with eight advocates voluntarily participating in the ongoing protest.
DBA has been holding a chain hunger strike as part of its ongoing agitation against the LADC policy. The Association has been demanding reforms to the existing framework, claiming it requires changes to better balance legal aid with public safety and the interests of the legal profession. The protest is continuing until the government addresses its concerns.
The advocates who observed the day-long hunger strike were Adv. Amit Sharma, Adv. Damanpreet Kaur, Adv. Jugraj Dhamija, Adv. Lovepreet Kaur, Adv. Simranjit Singh Khosa, Adv. Prabhjot Kaur, Adv. Karan Puggal, and Adv. Akash Narula.
The Bar Association expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the participating advocates, stating that their commitment and unity had further strengthened the collective struggle of the legal fraternity. It described their participation as a source of inspiration for fellow lawyers and reiterated that the movement is aimed not only at safeguarding the interests of advocates but also at protecting the integrity of the justice delivery system.
The Association alleged that the present LADC system enables persons accused of serious crimes to obtain government-funded legal assistance with ease. It maintained that unless necessary reforms are introduced, the policy could embolden criminals, adversely affecting law and order and posing risks to the safety of women, children and senior citizens.
Appealing to the government, the Bar Association demanded a comprehensive review of the LADC policy and urged that suitable amendments be made to strengthen the justice system while maintaining public confidence and ensuring the safety of society.
