Ferozepur, April 6, 2026: Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the major achievements of the Northern Railways Ferozepur Division during a press conference, showcasing significant progress across multiple sectors.
In the engineering sector, 76.77 km of track was renewed to enhance safety and punctuality. Speed was increased to 110 km/h over 116.2 route km in key sections, while safety fencing was installed over 85.2 km. Infrastructure upgrades included new foot overbridges and modernization of loop lines at 87 stations.
Under safety initiatives, the division adopted a zero-tolerance policy, conducting 69 safety seminars and 47 counselling sessions for loco pilots, effectively controlling SPAD incidents. A joint mock drill with the National Disaster Response Force strengthened disaster preparedness.
The medical department saw major upgrades with a modular operating theatre, arthroscopy services, and in-house diagnostic facilities. Over 1.76 lakh OPD patients and 2,466 indoor patients were treated, along with 408 health camps.
In commercial performance, the division earned ₹3382.65 crore in revenue, surpassing targets, and recorded 4.85 crore passenger bookings—an 18% increase. Ticket checking revenue also exceeded expectations.
The division expanded connectivity under new train operations, including multiple Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat services. Logistics improvements included goods sheds and enhanced passenger amenities across stations.
The personnel department promoted 3,854 employees and facilitated new recruitments, while financial assistance schemes supported staff families.
In operations, freight loading saw strong growth with increased commodity movement and improved train speeds. The signal and telecom department introduced electronic interlocking and digital systems, enhancing efficiency and safety.
Mechanical and electrical upgrades improved coach maintenance and power supply systems. A landmark achievement was the inauguration of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link by Narendra Modi.
During Operation Sindoor, the division demonstrated swift response by deploying relief trains and maintaining connectivity even during floods, reflecting its strong crisis management capability.
Responding to a query regarding the Patti–Amritsar railway track, DRM said the Central Government has approved the Ferozepur–Patti rail link project, which involves the construction of a 25.72 km new rail line in Punjab at an estimated cost of ₹764.19 crore. Once completed, the project will significantly reduce the distance between Ferozepur and Amritsar from 196 km to around 100 km, improving connectivity and travel time. This strategically important rail link is expected to boost development and trade in the border areas, while also restoring the direct rail connectivity that was disrupted after the partition. The Railways will now bear the cost of land acquisition. Necessary procedures are currently underway at the concerned departmental level, and it is expected that all formalities will be completed within the current year.
