Punjab Bandh peaceful in Ferozepur, Disrupts transport; Woman unable to reach Jalandhar after mother’s death
Ferozepur, August 21, 2026: The Punjab bandh call given by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha on Friday, August 21, seeking the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentences, affected normal life in several parts of the state, including Ferozepur. Markets in Ferozepur remained closed, while bus services were also disrupted, causing inconvenience to commuters.
A woman, Anjali, who reached the Ferozepur bus stand to travel to Jalandhar, said that she was unable to reach her destination due to the suspension of bus services. “My mother has passed away and I have to go to Jalandhar, but I am unable to travel because the buses are not operating,” she said.
Meanwhile, several residents said that the government should consider releasing prisoners who have completed their sentences. At the same time, commuters travelling between different places expressed concern over the difficulties caused by the bandh, saying that the disruption had significantly affected their daily lives and urgent travel plans.
A police official said that the bandh was voluntary and that no one would be forced to participate in it. “If anyone wants to keep their business or other work open, the police will not stop them. No pressure is being exerted on anyone to participate in the bandh,” the official said. However, the bandh remained peaceful and no untoward incident took place.
