Chandigarh, May 25, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing in the pending Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears case involving Punjab Government employees and pensioners till July 1, while issuing notice on the state government’s plea seeking a stay in the matter.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate D.S. Patwalia, appearing for the Punjab Government, informed the court that the state is acting on the recommendations of a Cabinet Sub-Committee regarding the release of pending DA installments and implementation of revised DA rates for employees.
The Punjab Government also submitted a sealed report of the Cabinet Sub-Committee outlining the proposed roadmap for releasing the pending DA arrears. The state sought additional time to complete the process and requested that the matter be adjourned till July 1.
The case arises from the High Court’s April 8, 2026 order directing the Punjab Government to release all pending DA arrears to employees and pensioners by June 30, 2026, and ensure uniform DA rates across all categories of employees.
As per the earlier court order, senior officers, including IAS, IPS, IFS and judicial officers, are currently receiving 58 per cent DA, while other state government employees are being paid 42 per cent DA. The matter will now be heard again in July 2026.
