Rupnagar (Ropar), June 17, 2026: Punjab has lost one of its brave sons after Naik Sarabjit Singh of the Punjab Armed Regiment passed away while serving in the high-altitude region of Leh in Ladakh. The soldier reportedly suffered a medical emergency linked to low oxygen levels during active duty in the challenging terrain.
A resident of Bind Rakh village in Rupnagar district, Naik Sarabjit Singh was deployed in one of the country's most demanding border areas. According to family members, his health suddenly deteriorated on Monday after experiencing breathing difficulties caused by a sharp drop in oxygen levels at the high-altitude location.
He was immediately rushed to a military hospital, where doctors made every effort to save him. However, despite intensive medical treatment, he succumbed to his condition while serving the nation.
The tragic news has cast a shadow of grief over Bind Rakh village and the surrounding region. The loss has been especially heartbreaking for the family as the soldier had been married only five months ago. His wedding took place on January 25 this year, and the family was still celebrating the beginning of a new chapter in his life.
Speaking to the media, the martyr’s uncle, Sukhwinder Singh Bind Rakh, said that the mortal remains of Naik Sarabjit Singh are expected to reach the village on Wednesday. His final rites will be conducted with full military and state honours in recognition of his service and sacrifice.
Political leaders, social organisations and religious figures from the region have expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family. Local administration officials have also met family members and assured them of all possible support.
Residents of the area have hailed Naik Sarabjit Singh as a courageous soldier who dedicated his life to the service of the nation. His sacrifice, they said, will be remembered with pride and gratitude for generations to come.
