Amrit’s Innocent Plea: A cry of hunger that stirred hearts worldwide
Former MLA Raminder Awla lends a hand, gives Rs.51K financial assistance with permanent job at his power plant
Ferozepur, November 27, 2024: A heart-wrenching video of 5-year-old Amrit from Punjab recently went viral on social media, leaving people deeply moved. In the video, Amrit, a schoolboy, innocently tells his teacher that he hadn’t eaten because his family didn’t have flour to cook. The teacher captured this emotional moment and shared it online to seek help for the family, sparking a wave of compassion across the globe.
As the video spread, people from Punjab, other parts of India, and even overseas stepped forward to help the struggling family. The harsh reality that a child could go hungry in Punjab—a state known for feeding millions—shocked and saddened viewers. Many reached out with monetary aid and essentials, driven by a desire to make a difference.
In Ferozepur’s Saide Ke Nol village, where Amrit’s family resides, numerous visitors arrived to offer their support, inspired by the boy’s innocence and the family’s dire circumstances. Even Indians living abroad extended their assistance to meet the family’s immediate needs.
Former Congress MLA from Jalalabad, Raminder Singh Awla, personally visited Amrit’s home to offer help. Moved by the situation, Awla provided ₹51,000 in financial aid to the family and announced permanent jobs for Amrit’s parents at his power plant in Ferozepur. He ensured that the family could start working immediately, offering them a path to stability.
Awla shared his own emotional reaction, saying, “An acquaintance in England showed me this video and asked me to translate it. Watching it, I was deeply ashamed that in Punjab—a state feeding millions—such hunger exists.”
During his visit, Awla urged governments and local panchayats to identify and support underprivileged families. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that no family in our villages goes to bed hungry,” he emphasized, adding that systemic efforts are needed to prevent such situations.
Awla also took Amrit on a ride in his Land Cruiser, spending time with the family and assuring them of ongoing support. The boy’s candid admission of hunger has become a powerful symbol of the harsh realities many families face.
Amrit’s story isn’t just about one family—it is a reminder of the persistent hunger and poverty in society. It calls for united action from communities, governments, and individuals to ensure that no child goes to school on an empty stomach.
