Jalandhar, 01 December, 2024: Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station's new building will be dedicated to the public by First quarter of 2025. Disclosing this after taking a whirlwind tour of the ongoing project, Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries said that officials have been asked to carry out quality work in a timely manner.
The redevelopment of Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station as a world-class railway station is in full swing. Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station currently handles around 7,400 passengers per day, with an average of 141 trains passing through, including 2 Humsafar and 1 Vande Bharat train. During the financial year 2024-25 till the month of October, the average passenger revenue per day is Rs 16.30 lakh and the average per day from parcel service is Rs 0.51 lakh.
At a total cost of Rs 99 crore, once completed Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station will have segregation for both arrival and departure of passengers. Construction of iconic station building with world-class passenger facilities and culturally based artefacts, integration of both sides of the city and green building with gold rating maximizing use of natural ventilation and lighting on both sides of the station, all passenger facilities ie retail, Cafeteria, entertainment facilities construction of luxurious concourse for large gatherings at one place, 10 lifts and 9 escalators for passenger convenience, ample parking with pick and drop facility for smooth traffic flow, all types of travel related Arrangement of signage and digital display for information.
Emphasising on the safety of the passengers travelling in the trains, Shri Ravneet Singh said that Provision of Automatic Block Signalling between Ludhiana-Jalandhar section has been sanctioned with cost of 71.25 Crores and tenders have been invited for the same. Proposal has been initiated by the Ferozpur division to instal KAVACH in 1513 Km’s. Provision of KAVACH on Srinagar-Jalandhar-Jammu, Jammu-Amritsar, Amritsar -Pathankot & Amritsar -Khemkaran sections of FZR Division (549 Km). then on Ferozpur-Ludhiana, Ferozpur -Jalandhar, Firozpur -Fazilka & Kotkapura-Fazilka-Abohar Sections of FZR Division (452 Km).
Provision of KAVACH on Aamritsar-Attari, Beas-tarntaran, Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur, Phillaur-Lohiankhas & Phagwara-Nawanshahar balance route of FZR Division (300 Km) and on Jammu-Udhampur-Katra & Banihal-Baramula sections of FZR Division (212 Km). Train Collision Avoidance System (KAVACH) is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System meant to provide protection to the trains against Signal Passing at Danger (SPAD), excessive speed and collisions.
Further elaborating on the ongoing works of the Firozpur division, Shri Ravneet Singh said that 12 railway stations in Punjab are being re developed under as Amrit Bharat stations with cost of 270 Crores which include Dhandari Kalan, Phillaur, Phagwara, Kotkapura, Mukatsar, Firozpur cant, Fazilka, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur and Pathankot City. Shri Manoranjan Kalia, Shri Sushil Rinku, Shri KD bhandari, Shri Sarbjit Makkar and DRM Firozpur Division Shri Sanjay Sahu were also present in this event.
