Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Agreement with India, Indian Army Responds

New Delhi/ Chandigarh, May 10, 2025 – Just hours after a ceasefire agreement was reached between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan to halt ongoing military actions, Pakistan has violated the understanding, prompting a strong response from the Indian Army. The breach, involving cross-border shelling and drone intrusions, has been condemned as "extremely condemnable" by Indian authorities.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri addressed the situation in a press briefing, stating, "An understanding was reached this evening between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan to stop the military action that was going on for the last few days. For the last few hours, this understanding is being violated by Pakistan. The Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion. This intrusion is extremely condemnable, and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe that Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion."
The violations, reported along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border, include artillery shelling in sectors such as Akhnoor, Rajouri, and RS Pura, as well as drone activities in multiple locations,
The ceasefire, announced earlier today following U.S.-mediated talks, was intended to de-escalate tensions after days of intense cross-border exchanges, including India's Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist launchpads in Pakistan. The operation was launched in retaliation for a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 civilians. Despite the agreement, Pakistan's actions have raised concerns about the truce's sustainability.
"We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility," Misri added, emphasizing that the Indian armed forces remain vigilant and have been instructed to deal firmly with any further violations along the border.
The fresh provocations have led to blackouts in several border areas, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, as a precautionary measure.
The international community, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy, has urged both nations to sustain the ceasefire, emphasizing that de-escalation is in everyone's interest. However, Pakistan's actions have cast doubt on the immediate prospects for peace, with India maintaining its firm stance against terrorism and border violations.
As the situation unfolds, the Indian government has reiterated its commitment to national security, with sources stating that any future acts of terror or escalation will be met with a decisive response. The nation remains on high alert, with the armed forces prepared to counter any further intrusions.
