Sri Akal Takht Sahib issues warning to rebel Akalis – “No Akali faction should claim patronage of Akal Takht”
Indirect message to the rebel faction led by Manpreet Ayali and his five-member committee

Amritsar (Punjab), August 6, 2025:The Five Singh Sahibans of Sri Akal Takht Sahib have issued a clear directive stating that “no Akali faction or committee should claim to be under the patronage of Akal Takht Sahib.”
This message is seen as a strong indication of factions attempting to carve out new lines in Akali politics, particularly the five-member committee led by Manpreet Ayali.
On August 6, 2025 (22 Sawan, Nanakshahi Samvat 557), a special meeting of the Five Singh Sahibans was held at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Complaints were reviewed alleging that some Sikh political factions are “using the claim of Akal Takht’s patronage to gain political mileage.” This direction was issued by Sri Akal Takhat after the meeting.
It may be recalled that on December 2, 2024, the Five Singh Sahibans had directed all Akali factions to dissolve their separate fronts and unite, but no significant outcome has emerged so far.
Key points from the directive:
Sri Akal Takht Sahib stands firmly to safeguard the rights and interests of every Sikh.
If any faction refuses to abide by the December 2024 directive, they may pursue their own politics, but must not mislead the Sikh community by claiming Akal Takht’s patronage.
Maintaining separate factions undermines the spirit of Akal Takht’s order.
Final directive:“No faction or committee should describe itself as being under the patronage of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. All Akali and Panthic factions must unite to protect the larger interests of the Khalsa Panth, safeguard Punjab’s land, defend Sikh identity and symbols, prevent tampering with Sikh history and Gurbani in the age of artificial intelligence, and counter conspiracies targeting Sikhs globally.”
It should be noted that after launching its separate membership drive, the five-member committee has scheduled a delegate session in Amritsar on August 11 to propose forming a new Akali Dal and elect its office bearers.
This faction claims to represent an Akal Takht-backed Akali Dal in line with the December directive and labels the Sukhbir Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal as a deserter from Akal Takht.
The question now is: After this fresh order, will the Manpreet Ayali-led faction go ahead with its elections?
