Chandigarh, September 26, 2025: During the special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains launched a sharp attack on the opposition Congress and BJP over the state’s flood situation. He accused both parties of failing to extend support when Punjab was in crisis.
Bains specifically alleged that Congress politicized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s illness, while the BJP turned its back on Punjab during the disaster.
“Some Outsiders, Some Our Own Have Plundered Punjab”
Emotionally addressing the House, Bains said, “Punjab has always faced challenges. Some outsiders, some insiders have exploited the state—be it the Partition of 1947, the 1984 riots, or the current devastating floods.” He highlighted that the prosperity of Punjab depends on its crops, which have been completely destroyed in the floods, and criticized the Central Government for ignoring the state’s plight.
Targeting the Opposition
Bains took aim at the opposition on two fronts:
- Congress: “This session was called to help people, but Congress only politicized it. They even politicized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s illness, which is extremely shameful.”
- BJP: “During this time of disaster, the BJP did not stand with Punjab. The Chief Minister has been seeking a meeting with the Prime Minister for the past 10 days, but no time has been granted yet.”
Bains reaffirmed that the AAP government stands firmly with the people of Punjab and is committed to providing all possible assistance, while opposition parties are only focused on political gains.
