Int’l Bhai Mardana Society condemns killing of Sikh Gurdwara Caretaker couple in Pakistan’s Mardan
Ferozepur, June 18, 2026: The International Bhai Mardana Kirtan Darbar Society has strongly condemned the killing of a Sikh gurdwara caretaker and his wife inside Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Mardan city of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
As per reports in the media unidentified gunmen killed the gurdwara caretaker couple in Mardan and investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and trace the perpetrators. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also condemned the killings and demanded strict action against those involved.
Issuing a statement, Society President Jagjit Singh Bhullar and member Baljinder Singh Babbu Hussainiwala said that unidentified assailants entered the gurdwara and shot dead the main caretaker Jagannath and his wife Ashawanti (Asma Vanti). The incident took place at Gurdwara Singh Sabha located in the Khawaja Jang Bahadur Bazaar area of Babu Mohallah, Mardan, around 60 km northwest of Peshawar.
The Society expressed deep sorrow over the incident and termed it a serious attack on the safety of religious minorities. It urged the Pakistan government to conduct a fair investigation, identify the attackers and take strict action against those responsible.
The Society also appealed to Pakistan’s Minister for Minorities Affairs, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, to ensure effective measures for the protection of minorities and their religious places.
“Such incidents create fear among minority communities. The security of gurdwaras and those serving in them must be ensured,” the statement added.
Members present on the occasion included Harjit Singh Dhaliwal, Darshan Lal Heera, Paramjit Singh Aulakh, Ranbir Singh Rana Wala, Inderpal Singh Prince, Manor Lal, Rajesh Kumar Kali, Nirmal Singh, Gurmeet Singh Aulakh and Hardip Singh Sarpanch Rajiwala.
