Rana Sodhi meets Gadkari, pushes for four-lane upgrade of Ferozepur-Fazilka-Dharamkot roads
Ferozepur, October 9, 2025: The urgent need to convert the Ferozepur-Fazilka and Ferozepur-Dharamkot roads into four-lane highways was taken up by BJP Central Executive Member Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi on meeting Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari besides raising several issues concerning the district.
In response, the ministry has requested the concerned department to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to expedite the project’s approval and commencement.
Sodhi stated that, considering the heavy traffic, he has repeatedly demanded the widening of Fazilka Road and Jeera Road to prevent accidents. He added that the Union Transport Minister has taken note of the demand and directed the relevant department to prepare and submit the project report.
According to Sodhi, converting the Ferozepur-Fazilka and Ferozepur-Zira via Dharamkot roads into four-lane highways will cost approximately ₹1,700 crore. The roads will be 15 meters wide, and service roads of 3 meters will be constructed beneath any overbridges. He said the project will greatly benefit the public, making travel easier, as these roads carry traffic to Amritsar, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat. Currently, the narrow roads often lead to accidents and cause significant inconvenience. Sodhi emphasized that the four-laning will also accelerate the district’s overall development.
Rana Sodhi also raised the issue of beautification of the Arifke-Kot Budha Road. He affirmed that he makes every effort to bring the public’s issues to the attention of the Delhi authorities. Sodhi noted that Ferozepur is both his birthplace and work ground, and resolving its problems has always been his top priority.
