Police nab two in Rs 50 lakh extortion, firing cases with pistol seizure
Ferozepur, October 16, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Ferozepur police have arrested two accused involved in an extortion bid of Rs 50 lakh and a firing incident outside a businessman’s house. The arrests were made following a joint operation led by DSP Karan Sharma Sharma with the support of CIA staff, under the tutelage of Manjit Singh, SP(D) during which a country-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from the accused.
According to police, on September 18, 2025, the complainant, Jashandeep Singh of village Badhni Gulab Singh, received a phone call from an unknown number demanding ₹50 lakh. When he refused, the accused fired shots outside his residence on October 10, 2025, around 10:05 p.m., to create terror.
During technical surveillance, police identified and arrested the accused, Tarsem Singh alias Jora, and Lovedeep Singh alias Laddi, of village Bandala Kalan. Both were intercepted at a naka point when they tried to flee on a motorcycle.
Investigations revealed that the two accused had previously become friends while lodged in jail in connection with separate serious cases, including murder and sexual assault. They conspired together to extort money and carried out the firing to intimidate the victim.
Police confirmed that the pistol used in the incident was the same weapon recovered from their possession. Both accused have a criminal history: Tarsem Singh is already facing trial in a murder case (FIR No. 88/2018 under Section 302 IPC at PS Sadar Ferozepur), while Lovedeep Singh is booked in a rape and abduction case (FIR No. 59/2018 under Sections 376, 363, 366 IPC at PS Bandala Kalan).
