Major update in Thar hit-and-run case that crushed two sisters — Here’s What Happened

Chandigarh, October 17, 2025: In a major development in the Chandigarh Thar hit-and-run case, the police have arrested the accused who allegedly ran over two sisters with his speeding SUV. The tragic incident claimed the life of the elder sister, while the younger one remains in critical condition.
The accused has been identified as Naroshpreet Singh, a law student. Police had earlier seized the red Thar jeep used in the accident. Meanwhile, following allegations of negligence in the investigation, Gurjeevan Singh, the in-charge of Burail Police Post (Sector 45), has been sent to police lines, and Sub-Inspector Naveen has been appointed as the new in-charge.
What Happened
The horrifying accident took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 15, on the dividing road between Sectors 45 and 46.
- How the incident occurred:
The victims, 22-year-old Sojef and her 24-year-old sister Isha, were waiting for an auto near Dev Samaj College when a speeding red Thar rammed into them from behind.
- One dead, one critical:
Both sisters were immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH-32). Doctors declared Sojef dead on arrival, while Isha remains in critical condition in the ICU.
- Family protest:
The accused fled the scene after the accident. The victim’s family members and locals gathered in protest, alleging that police were trying to shield the accused.
Police Action
After facing criticism for slow response, the police intensified their investigation. Based on CCTV footage and the vehicle’s registration number, the accused was identified and subsequently arrested.
