Chandigarh, November 26, 2025: Punjab BJP State President Sunil Jakhar today lashed out at AAP Minister Aman Arora for his remarks regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s participation in the 350th martyrdom anniversary commemorations of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
Calling the statement “baseless and politically motivated,” Jakhar demanded that not only Aman Arora but the entire Aam Aadmi Party issue a public apology.
Jakhar said that Aman Arora’s claim—that the Prime Minister did not attend the commemorative event despite an invitation—was “factually incorrect and misleading.”
He clarified that PM Modi had attended the major event held in Kurukshetra to pay homage to the revered Guru and that the Government of India had also issued a commemorative coin in his honor. He added that a national-level program was held at the Red Fort, where the Guru’s supreme sacrifice for protecting religious freedom was highlighted.
“Events were organized not only across India but internationally,” Jakhar said, asserting that Arora’s remarks were aimed purely at political point-scoring.
Jakhar further informed that the Punjab BJP organized a Kirtan Darbar at Sri Anandpur Sahib, where party leaders collectively bowed their heads at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in honor of the Guru.
Questioning AAP’s intentions, Jakhar pointed out that despite being invited, no AAP minister or leader attended the SGPC’s commemorative event. “If you truly have respect for Guru Sahib, why skip such an important occasion?” he asked.
He also accused AAP of double standards, recalling that during the Punjab floods on August 26, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was in Tamil Nadu studying the state’s breakfast scheme. “The same leaders invited Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister for this event, yet even he chose not to attend. What explanation does AAP have now?” he said.
Jakhar alleged that Chief Ministers of other states stayed away because they recognized the political motive behind AAP’s event. “No responsible leader wants to indulge in politics in the name of religion,” he stated.
Criticizing the government’s expenditure, he said AAP spent crores on a special Assembly session and promotional banners featuring their leaders. “This money should have been used for the development of Sri Anandpur Sahib, which would have actually benefitted Punjab and the Sikh community,” he added.
In conclusion, Jakhar said politicizing the sacred martyrdom of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was “deeply unfortunate” and reflected “AAP’s narrow mindset.” He reiterated that the BJP and the Central Government remained committed to honoring the Guru’s enduring legacy.
