Majri and Kharar all set for Panchayat Samiti Polls; Observer reviews arrangements

SAS Nagar (Punjab), December 13, 2025: Election Observer Ms Amrit Singh on Saturday inspected the strong rooms set up at the Government Polytechnic College, Khoonimajra (Kharar) for the secure storage of ballot boxes for the upcoming Majri and Kharar Panchayat Samiti elections.
She was accompanied by ADC (Rural Development)-cum-Additional District Election Officer Mrs Sonam Chaudhary and SDM-cum-Returning Officer, Kharar Panchayat Samiti, Ms Divya P during the visit.
During the inspection, the Election Observer directed officials to ensure foolproof security of the strong rooms. She emphasized the installation of CCTV cameras with live coverage, with the footage to be displayed on screens outside the strong rooms for viewing by contesting candidates, along with adequate deployment of police personnel.
Ms Amrit Singh underlined that safeguarding the sanctity of the voters’ mandate sealed in the ballot boxes is a shared responsibility of the administration and must be ensured with utmost diligence until the counting of votes. The Government Polytechnic College, Khoonimajra, will also serve as the counting centre, with vote counting scheduled for December 17.
Earlier in the day, the Election Observer reviewed the final training-cum-rehearsal of polling personnel at the same venue before their dispatch to various polling booths across Majri and Kharar Panchayat Samities. Addressing the polling parties, she urged them to perform their duties with sincerity and vigilance, strictly adhering to the guidelines issued by the State Election Commission, Punjab, to ensure a free, fair and impartial polling process.
Meanwhile, polling for Panchayat Samiti elections in district SAS Nagar will be held on Sunday across 306 polling booths in Kharar, Majri and Derabassi Panchayat Samities. Polling will take place from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Of the total booths, 121 are in Derabassi, 110 in Majri and 75 in Kharar.
