Punjab releases Rs 4.77 crore under Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme
Major relief for students from deprived sections

Chandigarh, December 27, 2025: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, continues to take significant steps to bring students from deprived and backward sections into the mainstream and empower them through education. This was stated by Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur.
Sharing details, Dr. Baljit Kaur said that ₹4.77 crore has been released so far under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Caste students, ensuring that no student is forced to discontinue education due to financial constraints.
She informed that a total of 2,62,373 students across the state have applied under the scheme, reflecting the effective reach and impact of the government’s education welfare initiatives. Highlighting the government’s commitment, the Minister said a budget provision of ₹245 crore has been made for the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme during the financial year 2025–26.
Dr. Baljit Kaur further revealed that during the previous financial year, financial assistance was extended to 2,37,456 students under the scheme, enabling thousands to continue their education without economic barriers.
Emphasising the government’s vision, the Cabinet Minister said that for the Mann Government, education is not merely a welfare scheme but the foundation of social justice. She reiterated that the government is firmly committed to ensuring that no poor or deprived student is compelled to drop out of education due to financial hardship.
She added that through the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, the state government is actively supporting students who aspire to uplift their families and society through education, reaffirming that the government stands with every child striving to build a better future through learning.
