Amritsar (Punjab) January 24, 2026:The controversy over a Muslim youth rinsing his mouth in the sacred sarovar of the Golden Temple continues to escalate.
Despite the youth having apologised twice, members of the Sikh community remain dissatisfied with his conduct. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has now decided to file an FIR against him.
Confirming the development, SGPC Legal Advisor Amanbir Singh Siyali said that a formal complaint would soon be submitted to the police. According to the SGPC, an internal inquiry revealed that the youth had entered the Golden Temple premises with intent to commit sacrilege.
The committee stated that the youth remained inside the Golden Temple complex for nearly 20 minutes but did not pay obeisance, raising serious questions about his intent. SGPC said the action is necessary to uphold the sanctity and religious discipline of the holy shrine.
