15 villages to get piped water as NABARD clears Rs 9.5 cr for Ferozepur
Ferozepur, 22 January 2026: NABARD has sanctioned two key infrastructure interventions for Ferozepur district under RIDF-XXXI with a combined financial support of ₹9.50 crore significantly enhancing rural drinking water supply and irrigation efficiency.
Under the Drinking Water component, NABARD has approved rural piped water supply projects for 15 villages, to be executed by the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation - DWSS Punjab. The works involve upgradation and provision of piped water supply, covering an estimated 9,718 capita and supported through ₹475.31 lakh (₹4.75 crore) in RIDF loan assistance.
Under the Irrigation component, NABARD has sanctioned works for laying underground RCC pipelines on outlets of the 6-R Distributary of the Sidhwan Branch Canal, along with command area improvement measures, to be implemented by the Water Resources Department, Punjab. This intervention covers 940.89 hectares, with ₹474.90 lakh (₹4.75 crore) in RIDF loan support.
Rohit Kashyap, District Development Manager, NABARD Ferozepur, stated that these projects will expand Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs), improve irrigation conveyance, reduce seepage losses, and lower dependence on untreated groundwater sources, thereby improving both household water availability and agricultural water security in rural Ferozepur.
