Zira’s boxing prodigy Sukhpreet Kaur selected for International Exposure Camp in Ireland
Ferozepur, January 31, 2026: Sukhpreet Kaur, a Class 12 student of Shaheed Gurdas Ram Memorial Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School, Zira, who has been the State Champion in boxing for the past four years and has twice won the title of Punjab’s Best Boxer, has been selected for the International Boxing Exposure Training Camp in Ireland (Europe).
After passing through very tough competitions, Sukhpreet achieved this milestone. She is the only student from a government school in Punjab to be included in the team of 10 female boxers selected from across the country.
Giving details, School Principal Rakesh Sharma said that the Sports Authority of India had conducted trials at Rohtak for international camps, in which Sukhpreet cleared the trials and secured her place among India’s 10 selected female boxers.
At Zira Girls School, Sukhpreet had been continuously training under the guidance of international coach Mrs. Lakshmi Verma and Mr. Paramjit Singh (D.P.E.), and at present she is receiving coaching from renowned Indian coach Mr. Leeladhar at the Sports Authority of India’s STC Badal Wing.
The selection of a government school student for such an international boxing exposure camp is a matter of great pride for Punjab, and especially for government schools.
Coach Mrs. Lakshmi Verma said that it had always been her dream to take this student to the international level, and today that dream has come true.
The Indian team that reached Ireland consists of 10 female and 10 male players, who will be part of the camp from 27 January to 10 February, participating in various competitions.
Many teams from different countries are taking part in this international training camp in Ireland, where these players will gain valuable international-level experience.
For this unique achievement of the school’s student, MLA Naresh Kataria, Punjab Boxing Association President Gurmeet Singh (IPS), General Secretary Santosh Datta, District Education Officer Mrs. Munila Arora, and Deputy District Education Officer Satinder Singh congratulated the student and her coaches, expressing hope that she will perform excellently at the international level and bring glory to the nation.
It is noteworthy that a student from a small border-area town reaching the global stage to showcase her talent will serve as a great inspiration for other government school girls.
This student is once again the State Champion this year and was also set to participate in the School National Games. Earlier, she had won a Bronze Medal at the Presidential level.
Principal Rakesh Sharma expressed happiness, saying that Sukhpreet will be the first international boxer of this school to represent the country abroad.
