Punjab is tackling Bathinda's traffic woes and making real progress. With Ring Road Phase-1 nearing completion, the government has already started the next crucial phase: connecting it directly to the Chandigarh Highway.
A new flyover at Bibiwala Chowk
Bathinda's MLA Jagroop Singh Gill has been keeping a close watch on the city's development and he says the Punjab government is finally tackling the traffic mess. The Central Government has given its approval.
MLA Gill further says "Sure, it'll take more than a year to complete, but once it's finished, those notorious traffic jams at Bibiwala Chowk will be history vehicles will flow seamlessly from the Ring Road to the highway" .
Bathinda extends its gratitude to Former DC Showkat Ahmad Parray IAS the driving force behind fast-tracking this matter.
The project has Central Government approval and will take over a year to finish, but once it's done, the payoff will be immediate vehicles flowing smoothly from the Ring Road straight onto the National Highway, finally putting an end to the gridlock that's plagued Bibiwala Chowk for years.
At Bibiwala Chowk, part of the existing over bridge will come down to make way for something new a flyover positioned right in front of the Ring Road. Below it, a subway will connect the Ring Road to Chandigarh Highway. The state government expects to invest Rs 39.37 crore in the project, service road included.
A new flyover will be constructed at the same location by removing some part of the already constructed over bridge at Bibiwala Chowk. The new flyover will be constructed just in front of the Ring Road, under which a subway will be prepared, where the Ring Road will be connected to the Chandigarh Highway.
The flyover at Bibiwala Chowk is closed because they're building a new overbridge. Right now, cars are being sent through a service road near Cantt that connects to the Bathinda-Chandigarh road. The local government and traffic police have put extra officers around the area to watch traffic and keep things moving smoothly while construction is happening.
Bibiwala Chowk has always been the busiest spot in Bathinda city. It's where Chandigarh Road, 100 Feet Road, and several other big roads meet. Every day, heavy trucks from oil depots, refineries, and factories create traffic jams here.
Even though Ring Road Phase-1 is now open, there's no direct way to get to Chandigarh Highway, so drivers still have to go through Bibiwala Chowk which means more traffic jams. The new over bridge being built will fix this issue. For now, the service road going to Thana Cantt has been made one-way because the closed flyover is forcing all traffic onto that road.
Once the project wraps up, traffic from Malout, Amritsar, and other outlying areas will flow directly onto the Ring Road. No more gridlock at Bibiwala Chowk vehicles bound for Chandigarh will slip straight onto the highway instead. A much smoother, more convenient journey for everyone
