Ludhiana (Punjab), March 20,2026: Punjab’s industrial revival received a significant boost on Friday as Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann inaugurated Tata Steel’s second-largest plant in India, marking a historic milestone in the state’s manufacturing landscape. Laid with the foundation stone in October 2023, the Ludhiana plant represents a ₹3,200 crore investment and is the country’s first steel plant using green energy via Electric Arc Furnace technology.
Addressing the gathering, CM Mann highlighted the employment potential, saying, “This plant will provide direct jobs to around 2,700 youth and 10,000 indirect employment opportunities. Punjab’s talented youth no longer need to leave the country to find meaningful work despite holding top degrees.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that industries had left Punjab in the past due to flawed policies, but the state is now attracting investment with pro-industry policies. “We want Punjab to be a preferred industrial destination in India, attracting not just investment but modern and sustainable technologies,” he said.
CM Mann also lauded Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, noting that the plant will use 100% steel scrap as raw material, making it environmentally friendly. Spanning 115 acres, the facility integrates cutting-edge technology aimed at global competitiveness.
“Countries like Japan are already moving towards large-scale use of green energy,” Mann said. “With strong air, rail, and road connectivity, Punjab is now ready to compete globally. We have requested the Tata Group to start flights to Western countries for Punjabis living abroad.”

Reiterating the state government’s industrial vision, he added, “Over the past four years, Punjab has secured investments worth ₹1.58 lakh crore, creating jobs for more than five lakh youth. Our approach is simple: stable policies, fast decisions, and strong industry partnerships. When industries grow, Punjab grows, and when Punjab grows, the country grows.”
Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora and Cabinet Ministers including Hardeep Singh Mundian, along with Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, were present at the inauguration. CM Mann expressed confidence that the project would become a key pillar in Punjab’s industrial growth story, encouraging more companies to invest in the state.
“This plant is not just an investment; it is a statement of trust and confidence in Punjab’s future,” Mann concluded, underlining that the state is poised to lead not only in agriculture but also in industrial development.
