Punjab CM Mann honors progressive livestock farmers at Pashu Palan Mela

Ludhiana (Punjab), March 20, 2026: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann conferred the Chief Minister’s Awards to four progressive livestock farmers during the first day of the Pashu Palan Mela at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
The awards recognized excellence in buffalo, goat, fish, and pig farming, celebrating farmers who have adopted scientific methods to boost productivity and sustainability. CM Mann presented plaques, citations, shawls, and cash prizes to the winners.

- Buffalo Farming: S. Fateh Singh (Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar) – manages 300 animals, including 85 milking buffaloes, producing 5 quintals of milk daily; also makes paneer, ghee, and other value-added products. Cash prize: ₹21,000.
- Goat Farming: S. Kuldeep Singh (Barnala) – operates a 50-goat farm using modern breeding methods. Cash prize: ₹5,100.
- Fish Farming: S. Navjot Pal Singh (Ferozepur) – produces 15 tons of fish annually and also rears buffaloes, cows, chickens, and goats. Cash prize: ₹11,000.
- Pig Farming: S. Gurcharan Singh (Mansa) – manages 400 pigs, sells 300–350 annually, with record births of 18 piglets per sow. Cash prize: ₹5,100.
Cabinet Ministers Gurmeet Singh Khuddian and Hardeep Singh Mundian, MLAs, and university dignitaries including Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal (PAU) and Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh Gill (GADVASU) were present.
Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director of Extension Education, said the university organizes such awards to encourage adoption of modern livestock practices and enhance the productivity and profitability of Punjab’s livestock sector.
