Amritsar (Punjab), March 21, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday announced that a special session of the Vidhan Sabha will be held on April 13, 2026, to consider amendments to the ‘Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Act, 2008’ aimed at preventing incidents of sacrilege.
The announcement came after a key meeting with the Sant Samaj at the Circuit House in Amritsar, where discussions focused on strengthening legal provisions to protect the sanctity of sacred scriptures.
The Chief Minister said that the government is committed to ensuring strict punishment for those found guilty of desecration, adding that stronger laws will be introduced to safeguard the faith and dignity of Punjab.
Reaffirming the reverence for Guru Granth Sahib, Mann said the scripture is regarded as the eternal Guru that guides people towards truth, service, and humanity. He warned that any attempt to hurt religious sentiments through acts of sacrilege would not be tolerated and would invite exemplary action.
