Chandigarh, March 31, 2026: A statue of B. R. Ambedkar was vandalised in Hoshiarpur district, triggering strong reactions from political leaders and raising concerns over law and order in the state.
Condemning the incident, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar demanded immediate and strict action against those responsible. He termed the act a serious lapse in governance and urged the authorities to ensure that the culprits are identified and punished at the earliest.
Jakhar also appealed to the people of Punjab to remain vigilant against divisive forces and maintain communal harmony. In a message shared on social media, he alleged that certain elements operating from abroad are attempting to disturb peace in the state and even target public institutions, including police stations.
Taking a swipe at the state leadership, he criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, saying the government should focus on improving law and order instead of engaging in political activities outside the state.
He asserted that attempts to create divisions in society would not succeed and called upon citizens to stand united against any forces trying to disrupt peace in Punjab.
