Islamabad (Pakistan), April 3, 2026: Pakistan is grappling with a sharp fuel crisis as prices of petrol and diesel have surged dramatically, crossing record levels amid rising global oil rates.
The government has increased diesel prices to 520.35 Pakistani rupees per litre, while petrol now stands at 458.40 rupees per litre. The revised rates came into effect on Friday, marking one of the steepest hikes in recent times.
According to officials, diesel prices have jumped by nearly 55 per cent, while petrol has seen an increase of over 42 per cent. This follows an earlier hike of around 20 per cent last month, compounding the burden on consumers and industries.
Ali Pervaiz Malik attributed the surge to rising global crude oil prices, stating that international markets have remained volatile in the aftermath of geopolitical tensions.
