Bathinda (Punjab), April 4, 2026:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday carried out a surprise inspection of the Advanced Cancer Institute at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, directing a comprehensive upgrade of infrastructure, technology and manpower to strengthen cancer care in the state.
During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed facilities, interacted with staff and assessed patient care services, making it clear that there will be “no compromise” on treatment standards. He announced that the institute will be developed into a world-class healthcare centre equipped with advanced medical technologies.
A key highlight of the upgrade plan is the introduction of robotic surgery, aimed at improving treatment outcomes and expanding access to advanced cancer care for patients, especially in the Malwa region.
“The purpose is not to find faults but to support and strengthen the institution,” CM Mann said, adding that the government is committed to transforming the institute into a premier cancer care centre for the entire state.
Addressing staff shortages, the Chief Minister acknowledged gaps in manpower and assured immediate steps to recruit additional personnel to enhance patient services.
He also reiterated that beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat and the state’s Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna will continue to receive treatment at the institute, underlining the government’s commitment to accessible and quality healthcare.
