Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), April 4, 2026:In a striking development, Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer Rinkoo Singh Rahi has resigned from service, alleging that he was not assigned any meaningful responsibilities for a prolonged period and was kept in an “attached” position despite drawing a salary.
Calling his resignation a “moral decision,” Rahi questioned the system of paying officials without work. “There seems to be a special punishment for honest officers—they are paid but not given work. How can drawing a salary without performing duties be justified? This too is a form of corruption,” he was qouted saying.
Rahi had been attached to the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Board in Lucknow since July last year after a video showing him doing sit-ups while holding his ears during a protest by lawyers in Shahjahanpur went viral on social media.
Following the incident, the state government sought a detailed report from the district administration. After the report was submitted, Rahi was removed from his post as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and attached to the Revenue Board.
Notably, Rahi had been appointed SDM of Puwayan in Shahjahanpur on July 28, 2025, but was removed from the position within just 36 hours of taking charge.
