Chandigarh, April 17, 2026:In a significant development for farmers in Punjab, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has submitted a detailed report to the Centre after collecting wheat samples from across the state, highlighting crop damage and seeking relaxation in procurement norms.
According to sources, the report clearly outlines the deterioration in wheat quality due to untimely rainfall and other adverse factors.
Based on these findings, FCI has strongly recommended easing procurement standards to ensure farmers do not face losses during the ongoing procurement season.
Notably, neighbouring states like Rajasthan and Haryana have already been granted similar relaxations by the Centre. Punjab had also been consistently urging the Union Government to consider leniency in norms, citing quality issues caused by weather disruptions.
