New Delhi, April 17, 2026: After the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026 failed to pass in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said the issue was not about women’s reservation but about safeguarding democracy.
Speaking to reporters, she said the opposition could never agree to linking women’s reservation with delimitation, adding that it was clear the Bill would not pass in its current form.
“This was not about women’s reservation but democracy. We can never agree to linking delimitation with women’s reservation. It was not possible that this Bill would pass. This is a big win for democracy in our country,” she said.
Targeting the government, she also questioned its stance on women’s issues, saying those who failed to take action in cases like Hathras, Unnao, and Manipur were now speaking about an anti-women mindset.
