MC Chandigarh approves record 67 works worth Rs 14.7 crore in major civic push

Chandigarh, April 27, 2026: In a major boost to urban infrastructure, the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh approved a record 67 development works worth ₹14.71 crore, marking one of the highest-ever clearances in the civic body’s history.
The meeting, chaired by Mayor Saurabh Joshi, focused on accelerating infrastructure growth and upgrading civic amenities across the city. MC Commissioner Amit Kumar and committee members, along with senior officials, were present.
Key approvals include renovation of community centres in multiple sectors, upgradation of markets with decorative and LED lighting, and installation of modern street lighting systems, including octagonal poles. Significant emphasis was placed on strengthening road and street infrastructure through works such as paver blocks, footpaths, parking areas, and internal streets across sectors and villages like Attawa, Hallomajra and Mauli Jagran.
The committee also cleared major public health and sanitation projects, including construction and renovation of public toilets, sewerage upgrades in EWS colonies, storm water drainage pipelines, and repairs at water works.
Green and urban beautification initiatives form a major component of the approvals, including landscaping of parks and green belts, repair of fountains, installation of benches and play equipment, and development of open spaces. Additional projects such as vending zones, footbridge reconstruction, fencing works, and procurement of machinery were also sanctioned.
Mayor Saurabh Joshi said the decisions reflect the Municipal Corporation’s commitment to holistic urban development, improved public infrastructure, and enhancing the overall quality of life for Chandigarh residents.
