Chandigarh, May 2, 2026: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday said the party is not afraid of what he termed attempts by the AAP government to “browbeat” its leaders through FIRs and political pressure.
Jakhar alleged that such actions are being used to divert attention from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s alleged conduct in the Punjab Assembly, while also accusing the state government of double standards.
He claimed that while BJP leaders are being targeted, certain AAP leaders facing serious allegations are being shielded. He also alleged that police protection has been extended to a “tainted MLA,” calling it part of efforts to safeguard the Chief Minister’s position.
The BJP leader further said the party will raise the matter with Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, particularly regarding what he described as “vendetta politics” against BJP MPs and selective targeting of opposition leaders.
Jakhar also alleged that individuals who were earlier praised by AAP are now being targeted after joining the BJP, calling it evidence of inconsistency in the ruling party’s approach.
He said the BJP remains firm and will not be intimidated by such actions, while warning officials against acting beyond legal limits in politically motivated cases.
Jakhar added that the people of Punjab are closely observing the situation and asserted that political developments will be reflected in the 2027 Assembly elections.
